Lyme Regis has a reputation for brilliant fossils, so be sure to check out the famous cliffs and Monmouth Beach to see if you can find some holiday souvenirs. Kids will love Dinosaurland Fossil Museum, and the Lyme Regis Philpot Museum also has a host of well-preserved fossils too.
Away from fossils, the Marine Aquarium is somewhere that all the family will enjoy. You can hand feed a group of very tame mullet and be able to hold and feel a variety of other marine life too. The aquarium is easily accessible by a short walk along the Cobb - Lyme Regis harbour - which has great views across the coastline.
Lyme Regis Undercliff is a pretty white sandy beach and another great place to take a stroll. Likewise Cobb Beach which has both sand and pebble sections - but be careful of seagulls when tucking into your lunch!
For something more exciting, Lyme RIB rides will give you an adrenaline-fueled ride around the coastline, while Whiskey Jack stand up paddleboard tours are also fun. You could even take a fishing charter or tour with Harry May Boat Trips or Kraken Mackerel Fishing and Boat Trips.
To see how a working mill would have been run 100 years ago, take a trip to The Town Mill. It's run by volunteers dedicated to sharing the history of the region with visitors. Alternatively, take a stroll through Langmore and Lister Gardens for pretty sea views and immaculately kept gardens - and perhaps a fun family game of mini golf!
Back in town, a host of restaurants serve a selection of freshly caught seafood. Why not make an evening of it and visit the Marine Theatre too? The Lyme Regis brewery is also a great place to relax and try a pint of local ale, just be sure to check the opening times in advance.
Further afield, Axminster has a range of activities to suit all including the Axe Valley Wildlife Park and Axminster Heritage Museum. At Chard, Forde Valley House and Gardens and Ferne Animal Sanctuary are both worth the trip.
